The U.S. Department of Energy estimates there are currently over 20 million EVs on American roads today and predicts that number will increase to 30 million. The rise in EV sales has led to an increase in demand for charging stations at homes and businesses across the country — and while most drivers plug into wall outlets at home, many companies are installing EV chargers at their facilities or offering them as part of employee benefits packages.
Electric vehicles are growing in popularity as consumers look for more efficient ways to power their vehicles. While there are many environmental benefits of using electric vehicles, charging them can be a challenge. To help ease the burden, many cities and towns have installed EV charging stations. These stations allow you to charge your vehicle while you run errands, shop or eat out. But what exactly is an EV charger? How does it work? And why are they important? Keep reading to find out more about these new devices and how they can improve your driving experience.
What Is an EV Charger? An electric vehicle (EV) charger is a device that converts electricity from the grid into power that can charge your car’s battery pack. The most common type of charger is a Level 2 charger, which requires special equipment on both ends:
A special outlet at home, which is compatible with the plug-in charger cord that comes with your car (or can be purchased separately).
A device called a charging station at your destination — such as at work or at public parking lots — where you park your car while shopping or running errands.
Bay Power Solutions has recently donated four EV chargers accompanied by custom stands to WHRO Public Media. The chargers are part of our commitment to increase our local businesses access to clean energy and technology, while decreasing our carbon footprint. WHRO Public Media, a highly regarded educational and cultural institution, is a leading force for positivity in our community. Their efforts to provide engaging educational content and resources have demonstrated their power to educate and entertain. We are so proud to support their mission by donating WALLBOX Charging Stations.
The chargers are installed at the WHRO office in Norfolk, VA and will be available for employees to use while they are at work. This is part of Bay Power’s commitment to help offer green solutions that make sense for both the environment and your business. These chargers will allow for quick charging capabilities for guests and employees who own an EV or plug-in hybrid vehicle. We also hope that they will help encourage more people to consider driving electric vehicles.
