Completed in July 2008, The College of William & Mary’s Integrated Science Center is a 165,000 square foot facility created to integrate the college’s science programs. The ISC is a state of the art facility that houses a number of labs and classrooms, allowing William & Mary to be a front runner for research grants in science and technology. Due to the vast amounts of research and testing being conducted at the ISC, the need for a reliable backup power system was paramount for the college. When William & Mary constructed the SIC on their Williamsburg campus, they required the most reliable standby system available.
Bay Power Solutions and Generac Power Systems provided a 1,200kW Modular Power System (MPS) consisting of two 600kW generator sets integrated through digital technology. The system utilizes eight automatic transfer switches and provides emergency power to the building’s life safety and other critical mechanical systems. The system has N+1 redundancy for their most critical needs.
Delivery of this system was within 12 weeks, allowing the project to be completed on time and on budget.
